While millions of young, impressionable audiences attend large museums to view art, only 11% of the art acquired in the last decade was created by female artists. To leave viewers and attendees without female-produced art robs them of truly experiencing a complete view of artistic expression. Museums and art galleries have not become more progressive throughout history, as the MET only featured 7 female artists upon its opening. Understanding the amount of female-produced artworks acquired by major museums is crucial for us to move towards a world where art produced by females is equally acquired.
